Ken Domon Museum of Photography

This museum, the country’s first photography museum and the world’s first photography museum dedicated to an individual, was built in 1983. Ken Domon donated all 70,000 of his photos to the city. Visitors can enjoy appreciating not only those photos, but also the museum as a whole, including sculptures by Isamu Noguchi; the landscape garden by Hiroshi Teshigawara; the commemorative nameplate by Yusaku Kamekura; and the building itself which was designed by Yoshio Taniguchi who won an architectural award in 1984. When the hydrangeas are in bloom, the museum garden is thronged with people.
